Our Story

In August 1981, the Zonta Club of Footscray held its inaugural meeting, marking the beginning of a legacy dedicated to empowering women. Charter membership was granted to 25 remarkable women, including notable community leaders. Over the years, the club expanded its reach, evolving into the Zonta Club of Melbourne’s West, encompassing the western suburbs of Hobsons Bay, and Wyndham.

Since its inception, the club has been committed to supporting women and their families through various initiatives focused on addressing issues such as family violence, immigrant integration, health, education, and leadership development. Notable programs include awards honouring past charter member Evelyn de Bonnaire, aimed at empowering young women in education.

Through its unwavering dedication and collaborative efforts, and fundraising through community support and grants, the Zonta Club of Melbourne’s West continues to make a meaningful impact in the lives of women and girls, locally and globally.
