The 2023 Evelyn de Bonnaire Social Justice Awards were presented to the recipients at Mount Saint Joseph Girl’s College at their end of year assembly and Bridget and Nishka were given a warm welcome

to our August meeting, sharing with members their academic and community pursuits and their aspirations as they transition from Year 12 to a new life of promise.

Breast Cushions

Our club holds regular sewing bees as part of an ongoing Zonta initiative to create breast care cushions. The cushions are practical gifts that express support and provide comfort to women in the post-operative phase of breast surgery and those made by members and friends are supplied to Northern Hospital and individuals on request.

Paint and Sip Fundraiser with Westside Arts Studio

Zonta Club of Melbourne's West hosted a Paint and Sip afternoon in collaboration with Westside Arts Studio. The fundraiser saw many creative women come together to adorn sunflower art on their canvasses and enjoy a glass of wine, all while raising money to support our programs and initiatives at Zonta's Club of Melbourne's West.

Mental Health First Aid Training

Mental Health First Aid Training

Zonta Club of Melbourne’s West received grants from Hobsons Bay City Council and Ford Global Giving to sponsor community members to complete their accreditations in Mental Health First Aid. There were 4 successful training sessions, each held over 2 days, with up to 20 participants in each. The certificated course is run by Mental Health First Aid Australia trained facilitators to equip participants to recognise, support and refer people in the community who are struggling with depression, anxiety and other mental health related issues. This initiative was a great success.

“Zonta Says No to Violence Against Women” is a Zonta International campaign to raise awareness of and increase actions to end violence against women and girls around the world. Launched in 2012, the campaign has raised awareness of the global pandemic of women's rights violations and has united Zonta clubs worldwide in conducting impactful advocacy actions to fight violence against women and gender inequality.

During the 16 Days of Activism, 25 November - 10 December, all Zonta clubs and districts are encouraged to take local, national and international actions to influence lawmakers as well as advocate to change gender based behaviors to end violence against women and girls.
